Bring it Down: Sanusi Sends Message to CBN Governor on Inflation, Cardoso Replies, Makes Promises

The former CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido has sent a vital message to the current governor of the CBN, Yemi Cardoso.

Sanusi called on the apex bank to find a solution to the rising inflation rate, which is now over 17 years.

The message from Sanusi was well received by Yemi Cardoso, who replied with promises while listing his action plans.

The former governor of CBN, Sanusi Lamido, has incited the current governor, Olayemi Cardoso, to deal with the increasing inflation.

Sanusi Lamido issued his advice when he visited the CBN headquarters in the company of Ibukun Awosika, Chairperson of the impact investing advisory board.

When he visited, Sanusi also suggested long-term planning and fiscal authorities to prioritize agriculture and education, especially for girls.

The former CBN Governor visited when Nigerian inflation was at 26.72 percent as of September 2023.

Sanusi said:

“The Bank’s activities have a massive impact on the lives of Nigerians, and many people often do not know the impact of a Central Bank’s works until a Central Bank fails.

“I urged the new leadership at the CBN to work persistently at driving down the rate, which had severely impacted the wealth of individuals.”

 Cardoso replies Sanusi

In response, Cardoso pledged to prioritize the vital mandate of price stability during bus leadership at the CBN. How showed his determination to make the bank more effective by restricting inflation and positively influencing people’s lives.

He stated:

“At the end of our tenure, we want to look back and see that our policies have positively impacted people’s lives.”

Cardoso also expanded a warm welcome to the impressive investing Community’s visit and collaboration, appreciating their capacity to cause positive change in the Nigerian economy through strategic investments.

In reply, Awosika showed readiness to help the CBN and the federal government in their initiative to improve Nigeria’s investment climate.

According to an earlier report, it was unveiled that Cardoso promised a policy shift in the future direction of the apex bank.

One of Yemi Cardoso’s promises and plans was to shift CBN’s focus away from direct involvement in development finance initiatives, a hallmark of former Godwin Emefiele’s leadership.
