Lagos State University (LASU) Sacked Student Affairs Dean Over Certificate Racketeering Allegation

The Lagos State University, Ojo, has sacked its student affairs dean Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko.

This is caused by the report that went into scandal by an online medium on Monday, November 6.

This aforementioned report showed that the certificates racketeering syndicate had original Lagos State University certificates for anyone who has an interest in buying should pay N2m to N3m depending on the complexity of the course involved.

According to a report confirmed on Wednesday, it happens that Olumoko has been sacked from office while a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science in the person of Dr. Abiodun  Fatai-Abatan has been appointed as the new Dean of Student Affairs (DSA).

The report said: “Yes, Olumoko the former DSA has indeed been sacked, and a senior lecturer from the Political Science department, Abiodun has assumed the office; I’m sure an official statement will be given out to that effect soon”.

However, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, the coordinator, of the Centre of Information and Public Relations, LASU was asked for the school’s response to the removal of Prof. Olumoko, said, “I can’t say if he has been removed or not. I’m not yet in the office. So, I don’t know anything yet”.

Also, the Lagos State Assembly called for the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Akibu, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the institution’s Senate, and other top staff on Tuesday over the extraction of and certificate racketeering allegations leveled against the school currently.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa asked on Tuesday that the institution’s concerned authorities be summoned so that facts concerning the claim can be found for the sake of the school’s reputation.

Obasa said:

“I agree that the committee should invite those to be invited to bring up facts about the allegation, but we must not because that destroys our institution’s reputation”.

He added:

“If anyone is found wanting, such a person should be sanctioned”.

Moving the motion under “Matter of Urgent Public Importance”, Hon. Owolabi Ajani asked his fellow workers that there was a need to invite the Commissioner, the VC, and others for the house to resolve the facts behind the contention or allegation.
